A sunny winter day. The appartment's South oriented outside wall felt warm at the touch, as it bathed in the direct solar rays. The inside of the wall remained cold. We checked the inside of the wall many times during the day - in hope, the warmth supplied bu shinnig sun will eventually - by conduction - reach the inside of the wall, so the wall feels somehow warmer. We were mistaken in our hopes. The inside of wall remained as cold as it was at the beginning, regardless the 5 hours continuous direct solar shining. When sun weakened, we tried on touch the outside of the wall, which was exposed to the sun for 5 hours long of direct solar light. We had a hope, that the outside of the wall being warmed would keep its warmth for the night to follow, and eventually -by conduction - some of its accumulated warmth will penetrate towards the wall's inner side. Air is almost transparent to solar rays. Solar EM energy penetrates throu atmosphere without warming the air. A sunny day in winter. It was warm in the sun. We decided to open the cold appartment's windows to let the warmth of the sunny day in - just to warm the inside somehow... We were much surprised though. The outside air entering windows was an icy-cold winter air. The sunny day didn't warm the outside air at all. Because air is transparent to solar rays. Immediatelly we shut closed the windows, regretting ever openning them, because, regardless of outside warmth, very warm sunny day, the air was not warming our appartment - it was cooling it.

When thermometer is exposed directly to the sun we assume it doesn't measure air temperature, because it is subjected to the hot solar rays. Thus, the air temp is much lower than what thermometer read. When in the shade we assume thermometer measures air temperature. We are mistaken though, because in the shade thermometer is still subjected to the EM radiation falling upon it from its surroundings. What is correct to say about thermometers temps measurements is that thermometers display their own body's temperature. There is the indoors air temperature measurements. When indoors, the air is in thermal equilibrium with surounding it walls, thus thermometer displays the room temperature, which is the air's in the room temperature too.
